The game teaches math, sustainability and money on a level where children can understand it. You have a customizable character and a little house you can go to. You earn money from playing mini games, collecting resources and then selling then on the market situated in the center of the map. With the money you can then buy customizable items or furniture for your house or for various spots on the map. Some buildings on the map pollutes the air, but you can upgrade those to get rid of the pollution.
The game is available to download here. (Update published 2024)
Role: Programmer
Responsibilities: I joined the Pengeby project in 2024, where an update with new features was requested. The update add three new features to the games. First feature would allow the player to earn money by selling some of their furniture. Second feature would give the player the choice to earn a lot of money fast but with the trade-off of building a polluting building increasing the pollution in the city. Last feature would present an easier way to earn money fast when trying to upgrade a building without having the funds for it.Elaboration of all features are described in details further down this page.
I implemented a check when entering your house that would check if you have less than 25 coins and minimum three pieces of furniture, If both conditions are met a popup with a salesman will appear. He will give you three offers. One where you get 100% of the price sales price, another were you get 10-30% lower than sales price and another where you are paid 10-30% higher than sales price.

I implemented a function that in a timely interval when walking around on the map will check if you meet two condition. The condition are; is the a specific gameobject in view of the camera and have less than 25 coins. If those conditions are met a salesman will appear on the map and if you click him a pop-up appears. The salesman will offer the player 100 coins to build a chimney. This seems like a good deal until you find out that the chimney pollutes a lot and you will have to clean up the map. To remove the chimney again you need to click the chimney and the salesman pop-up will appear again and offer to remove the chimney for 130 coins. This symbolizes a loan and shows that there is a trade-off to the quick reward.
When you click the upgrade button on the buildings but does not have sufficient funds to buy it the salesman will appear again and offer to buy some of your resources. He will though only appear if you have at least one resource in your bag. Similarly to buying furniture the salesman will have a good, bad and neutral offer. It is the up to the player to do the math to find out which offer is best.
